What is counseling and how will it help me?

Counseling is a tool used to uncover your purpose, value and strengths, while addressing barriers keeping you from healing and success. A typical session involves a client expressing needs, concerns and thoughts openly, while a counselor listens, provides feedback, and asks questions. The counselor will help clients make personal goals and plans for change as well help you better understand who you are. Anyone can benefit from counseling, no matter your background or health. Hope Connection Counseling & Therapy’s (HCCT) mission is to provide counseling to help people find hope, healing and freedom in order to discover their God-given value and purpose.

Does my insurance cover HCCT services?

HCCT accepts payment through the following insurance providers: Amerigroup Cigna Iowa Total Care Title 19 UnitedHealthcare Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield

What are the service fees?

Costs differ depending on your insurance provider. Clients are responsible to pay co-pay and co-insurance costs upon arrival. HCCT accepts the following payment forms: checks, cash, and card. The average cost per session is between $70 and $160.

How long will the counseling session be?

Typically the sessions will last about 50 minutes.

What do you mean when you say Christian Counseling?

Christian counseling is applying biblical principles to address your every day situations. For more, you can refer to our “Statement of Faith”. HCCT is rooted in Christian values and beliefs that help you find hope, healing, and freedom. However, we offer counseling to you regardless of your own beliefs or faith.

What is your Statement of Faith?

Hope Connection Counseling and Therapy is rooted in Christian values and beliefs that help you find hope, healing, and freedom. However, we offer counseling to you regardless of your own beliefs or faith.

What services do you provide?

We provide family, marital and individual counseling through a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Family Systems Therapy (FST) approach.

How do I make an appointment?

You can make an appointment by phone, (319) 504-6388 or by requesting an appointment online and we will reply back to you as soon as possible.

Regular office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. and Saturday 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Closed on Sundays.

Are counseling services confidential?

Yes, all visits are kept confidential. Information will be released as necessary if the client is found to be a harm to themselves and/or others or if requested by the court.

Is there a limit to the number of sessions I can be seen?

It depends on the insurance carrier. Some insurances will only cover for a limited number of sessions. Please check with your insurance carrier.

Is there a psychiatrist on staff? Can you prescribe medication?

There is not a psychiatrist on staff. Only a psychiatrist or a medical doctor can prescribe medication. Referrals to psychiatrists in the area can be made if needed.

Do you offer support groups?

Currently, no, though HCCT would like to offer support groups in the future.

NAMI Black Hawk County provides free support groups for individuals, partners and families who have and are affected by mental illness. For more information, feel free to call (319) 830-6448 or visit them.

Do you conduct psychological/psychoeducational testing and/or evaluations?

No, but we do provide a bio/psycho/social assessment, which is just an assessment of the client’s biological, psychological and social history.

Do you conduct substance abuse evaluations?

No, we do not provide substance abuse evaluations at this time.

When are you open?

Office hours are 8:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Monday through Friday and Saturday 10:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M.  We are closed on Sundays.

We are located near downtown Waterloo. If you are coming up Newell St., drive until you see Beech St. then turn right. After about a mile, you will reach 515 Beech St. on your right.
